SUMMARY

 

Guo Aihe was born in Luoyang, China in 1964. He received BFA from Luoyang Normal University in 1986. Guo lives and works in Luoyang -  the capital of thirteen Chinese dynasties and the birthplace of Sancai.

 

Since 1986, Guo’s Sancai Art has been exhibited in major museums and institutions both nationally and internationally, including three permanent exhibitions at Luoyang Museum, Luoyang Sancai Art Museum, and Sancai International Ceramic Art Village. His international exhibitions include Visual Dunhuang Frescos through Porcelaine at Carrousel du Louvre, France; The Art of Water, Earth, and Fire at the UNESCO Headquarters, France; Handicraft Art From the Central Plain at Berlin China Cultural Center, Germany; Three Treasures from the Central Plains at Gwangju Museum of Art, Korea; and New Silk Road - Chinese Contemporary Porcelain Art Exhibition at Corfu Museum of Asian Art, Greece. In 2016, Sancai Art Museum of China opened to the public, curated by Guo Aihe, the museum consists of the world’s largest collection of contemporary Sancai art.

 

Guo earned renown for his public commissions, such as the 35-meters long mural The Center of the Country & The Origin of the Cities, was revealed at the 2010 Shanghai World EXPO, and permanently installed at Sancai Art Museum of China. Another large-scale installation, Fishes & Happiness (2015), commissioned by the City of Shanghai, permanently installed at the entrance of Shanghai Center, the tallest building in Asia. Recent projects include murals in Shanghai Metro Stations and Library at Luoyang Normal University.

 

Guo Aihe has received numerous awards and honors in recognition of his academic contributions and cultural achievements. Notably, Guo received the “Seal of Excellence for Handicrafts” from UNESCO; “Gold Award” from the International Academy of Ceramics and World Crafts Council. Guo has honored the title of “Chinese Ceramic Art Master” by the China National Light Industry Council and China Ceramic Industry Association. Guo also elected as one of “China’s Top Ten Distinguished Figures in Ceramic Industry”. In 2014, Guo was appointed as the Vice President of Chinese Ceramic Art Masters Association; in the following year, Guo founded “Today”, an annual charity exhibition focused on art education for children in rural China.
